"Hospital Chaplain believed to have died through asphyxiation when his study caught fire early on Tuesday morning. Fr. Patrick Brendan Denis O'Daly was Chaplain at St. Vincent's Hospital, Eastcote. Middlesex, since 1945.
He was born at Brentford in 1914. and studied at Old Hall and the English College. Lisbon, being ordained at St. Edmund's in 1938. His first curacy was at Kentish Town. but he was for some time in delicate health.
The fire at St. Vincent's which caused his death was thought to have broken out at about 2 a.m. when the smoke would have awakened Fr. O'Daly. He may have gone to ring for help when he was overcome.
A night Sister saw the smoke and rang for the Fire Brigade, who on arrival found Fr. O'Daly's body."
