John Shorten was a son of William Shorten and Hanora Neill of Kilnacranagh.
Julia Mahony was a daughter of John Mahony and Julia Brien of Clonomara.
John Shorten of Kilnacranagh and Julia Mahony of Clonomara married on 26 June 1909 in the Catholic Church of St. Marys in Enniskeane, Co. Cork. The marriage witnesses were C O'Neill of Clonakilty and Mary O'Brien of Main St., Dunmanway. Extract from Marriage Record herewith:

Julia Shorten died on 18 August 1939 at Kilnacranagh. From her death record she was married, aged 59 years, a farmer's wife. Present at her death and the Informant of it to the Civil Registrar was her husband, John W. Shorten of Kilnacranagh.
From the Cork Examiner of Saturday August 19, 1939 we read: "SHORTEN (Enniskeane) - On August 18, 1939, at her residence, Keelnacranaugh, Enniskeane, Julia Shorten. R.I.P. Remains will be removed to Enniskeane Church on this (Saturday) evening at 6 o'clock. Funeral to adjoining cemetery on tomorrow, (Sunday), after 12 o'clock Mass"
John William Shorten died on 5 April 1966 at Kilnacranagh. From his death record he was widowed, aged 91 years, a farmer. Present at his death and the Informant of it to the Civil Registrar was his daughter Hanora Shorten of Kilnacranagh.
From the Cork Examiner of Wednesday April 6, 1966 we read: "SHORTEN (Enniskeane) - On April 5, 1966, at his residence, Kelnacranaugh, John W. Shorten. Deeply regretted by his sorrowing family and relatives. R.I.P. Removal of remains on this (Wednesday) evening at 5 o'clock to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Enniskeane. Funeral arrangements later."
From the Cork Examiner of Thursday April 7, 1966 we read: "SHORTEN (Enniskeane) - On April 5, 1966, at his residence, Kelnacranaugh, John W. Shorten. Deeply regretted by his sorrowing family and relatives. R.I.P. Funeral on today, (Thursday), at 3 pm from Church of the Immaculate Conception, Enniskeane to Kilbrogan Cemetery"
