The information below is the accumulation of several years worth of genealogy research of my Irish "Downey" ancestors. If there are any helpful and correctable alterations that need to be made, I would be grateful if you could leave a note below. Thank you.

Cornelius and Kate were my 3 x great grandparents and Mary Jane Downey was my 2 x great grandmother. Mary travelled from Schull to Liverpool (means of travel unknown) and married Thomas Coppinger; to whom she had two daughters - Mary Josephine Coppinger and Bridget Coppinger (she later styled herself Beatrice, and never used the name Bridget). No records of Thomas Coppinger have been found as yet. Both daughters were born in Liverpool Brownlow Hill workhouse infirmary and it isn't clear if they were workhouse inmates for a time or not. According to the applicable census, they lived on Blandford street Liverpool (with Kate Mahoney who I originally believed to be Marys sister). At some point, Thomas Coppinger passed away and Mary was a widow in her twenties. She lived in 16 Yanwath street, Liverpool and met and married John Valentine (a grave digger at Toxteth park cemetery, Liverpool) with whom she had one daughter, Catherine Ann Valentine. John had attempted to claim Bridget/Beatrice as his biological or legally adopted child as he had documented her name as Valentine on census forms, never Coppinger. Mary Josephine Coppinger was always documented with the correct birth name. There was a 12 year age gap between Mary Josephine Coppinger and Bridget aka. Beatrice Coppinger- Valentine. Catherine Valentine passed away in her early 30's and was married to Gerald Devereux. Bridget (Beatrice) Coppinger-Valentine married Joseph John Saven ( a Carter) and they had 4 children (Douglas John, Josephine Clare who passed away aged 7) and Irene Veronica (my maternal grandmother) and Pauline. They lived at 39 Bellgreen road, Norris Green, North Liverpool. Mary Josephine Coppinger remained with her sister Beatrice for her whole life lived with them until she passed away in the 1960's. Beatrice passed away in 1982, Joseph in 1975 and Irene (my grandmother) in 1994 aged 64. I am immensely proud of Mary Downey and her children who, despite the obvious hardships facing her and her family in the aftermath of the Irish Famine, she made her way (somehow) to Liverpool and made a life for herself, albeit a short one as I found out today she passed away in the 1920's (she was in her mid 50's). Continue Sleeping peacefully Mary. I will see you one day. Your granddaughter, Emma ❤️
