Child born in Kilnahera and baptised in Drimoleague on date on Baptismal Register:

Mary Daly, 5 March 1845.  Sponsors: Timy Hayes and Ellen Sullivan.

This was just prior to the Great Famine in Ireland when the estimated population of Ireland was around eight and a quarter million people. Some writers believe it may have been higher and even up to, or above, 9 million. However, whichever figure one adopts there was a drop in population of about 1.8 million people in Ireland from 1847 to 1853. Rounded figures from some scholars suggest that about one million people died from starvation and a similar number left the country.

No further details were found so far on this family and the Daly name is not recorded in Kilnahera in Griffith's Valuation of circa 1849 - 1850 for the general area.
