Denis Daly was a son of Timothy Daly and Ellen Coughlan of Kilnahera, Drimoleague.
Denis Daly and Ellen (Nelly) Dempsey, both of Drimoleague, married in Drimoleague Catholic Church on 28 February 1843. The marriage witnesses were Denis Dempsy and Timothy Daly.

This was just prior to the Great Famine in Ireland when the estimated population of Ireland was around eight and a quarter million people. Some writers believe it may have been higher and even up to, or above, 9 million. However, whichever figure one adopts there was a drop in population of about 1.8 million people in Ireland from 1847 to 1853. Rounded figures from some scholars suggest that about one million people died from starvation and a similar number left the country.
No further details were found so far on this family and the Daly name is not recorded in Kilnahera in Griffith's Valuation of circa 1849 - 1850 for the general area.
