Reavouler Donovan

Donovan
The surname Donovan is widespread in West Cork and particularly in the Skibbereen, Glandore, Leap and Rosscarbery areas.
Here we will look at the Donovan families who lived in the townland of Reavouler in Drinagh in the early to mid 1800's. Reavouler (sometimes Reavoulder, Revoulir, Revoilder, Revoulder, Revoulir, Revoulder, Revouler, Reavaldir) is in the Catholic Parish of Kilmacabea for which parish records are only available from June 1832 onwards. The townland is very close to the Kilmacabea borders of nearby parishes of Drimoleague and Rosscarbery & Lisavaird.
From townlands.ie we see that Reavouler has an area of: 3,235,055 m² / 323.51 hectares / 3.2351 km² equal to 1.25 square miles and 799.40 acres. Nationwide, it is the 4524th largest townland that is know about and within Co. Cork, it is the 332nd largest townland.
Tithe Applotment Books
We do note that in the Tithe Applotment Books for Reavouler (dated 1829) the Donovan name does not appear there as a land tenant. These books record the occupiers of agricultural holdings over one acre.
Looking at the Kilmacabea Church baptisms for children born in Reavouler (Reavoulder) townland we find the following Donovan names:
John Donovan baptised 26 Jan 1833 - parents: John Donovan and Peg Shahanessy
