News article in a US newspaper:
Rocky Mountain O'Brien's Mother Dead
We see in the Irish papers that the widow of John O'Brien, of Dromore, in the parish of Caharagh, died a few weeks ago, and was buried by a large funeral in the family graveyard of Ardfield, near Clonakilty, some twenty miles from where she died. We are not any way pleased that Rocky Mountain d O'Brien has sorrow in his house; for, wicked man though he be in America, he never forgot his mother in the old house at home. We knew him in this country for the past seventeen years, and we know that not a Christmas of those seventeen Christmases passed by that he did not send his mother a Christmas present of a hundred dollars. That's the one thing that stands to Rocky Mountain O'Brien in our estimation - that; and his hand is in his pocket every time a contribution was wanted to help any one to strike a blow at Ireland's mortal, that accursed power that sends many a young Irish man and woman away forever from father and mother. We make sure of these remarks for the good of the poor mothers at home that are thinking of you, and lamenting for you night and day.
