DEATH ENDS A PATRIOTIC CAREER
The death of Mr Sean Hayes, ex-T.D., at the early age of 42 years, has come as a shock to his many friends. A native of West Cork, he entered the civil service in 1904, and after 8 years in London, he came to Dublin.

He was a member of the Irish Volunteers from their inception and fought in tho G.P.O., O'Connell St., in Easter Week, 1916. With hundreds of others he was deported to Frongoch, where he was camp commandant until the amnesty.

During these years he was several times arrested and deported, and he took part in the memorable hunger strike in Wormwood Scrubbs Prison, an experience that caused a serious breakdown in his health and may be regarded as being directly responsible .for his early death.
