John Hayes "Hamit" was a son of Denis Hayes & Mary McCarthy of Cregg
Margaret  McKennedy was a daughter of Michael McKennedy and Kate Hurley of Drom, Leap.  The family surname was Driscoll and this branch of the Driscolls were known as Driscoll Mackennedy.  In some records the Driscoll is omitted and the surname is simply Mackennedy (or variation).

John Hayes, a fisherman, and Margaret Driscoll McKennedy married in Kilmacabea Church on 29 October 1892.  The Witnesses were Cornelius Hayes and Mary McKennedy.

About 1930 the Irish Folklore Commission sought native Irish speaker to collect stories and folklore from them.  A folklore collector, Sean Ó Croinín collected a large amount from Seán Ó hAo (John Hayes above on this page). The collection was published by University College Dublin in 1985 in a 660 page book named Seanchas Ó Chairbre (Folklore from Carbery).  Seán Ó hAo was known as "Hamit" after a famous seafarer.

Deaths: 

John Hayes died at Cregg on 7 March 1946.  From his death record he was married, aged 80 years, a fisherman.  Bridget Hayes, his daughter was present at the death and the Informant to the Registrar on 16 March 1946.
His grave is in Rosscarbery Abbey.

Margaret Hayes died on 20 Feb 1958 at Cregg, Glandore.  From her death record she was a widow, aged 80 years, a labourer's widow.  Her son, Tim Hayes of Cregg was present at the death and the Informant.
