Obituary
"After a period of suffering beyond the strength of most men, Richard D. Donovan passed away on Saturday. It is seldom that one is called upon to portray in words a story of such fortitude under suffering as was his. Between six and seven years ago, Mr. Donovan sustained a fracture of the jaw bone in having a tooth extracted and after some months neorosis became apparent and he submitted to an operation for the removal of a section of the dead bone. In all he had five operations performed, the disease at last developing into a cancer, which was the cause of his death.

Mr. Donovan was a man unusually strong both in mind and physique. Literally true in his case and not as the words of the saw are these, "His word was as good as his bond," he went through life, true in his home, a loving father and husband and among his fellow men, sturdy and upright in every business relation.

He was born in Geneseo 44 years ago, the son of Rebecca Kingston Donovan and Michael Donovan. Nineteen years ago at St. Patrick's Church in Mt. Morris he took to his wife Miss Sarah Broderick of Moscow. After his marriage he went on the Ox Bow farm belonging to Charles Wadsworth. After a series of reverses by floods sufficient to have disheartened a less self-reliant character he moved to Mt. Morris and for a couple of years rented the Evans farm on the state road and ten years ago bought the Roswell Chase homestead, where he died.

Besides his wife he is survived by his six children, in point of age as follows: Mary, Richard, Charles, Celia, Vincent, and John, also his aged father, Michael Donovan of Geneseo, and three brothers and three sisters, Michael Jr. of Geneseo, George of Buffalo, Patrick of Elk City, Oklahoma, Mrs. Jerry Donovan of Mt. Morris, Mrs. Michael Donovan of Milan, Pennsylvania, and Mrs. Patrick Coppenger of Geneseo.

The funeral was held from St. Patrick's Church on Tuesday morning, Rev. Dr. Breen officiating."
