Michael Brien and Ellen Coakley married in Drimoleague Parish, Co. Cork on 3rd February 1863. The Witnesses were Timothy Coakley and Cornelius Beamish. We note from the marriage entry that Michael was one of the Brien clan with the branch name or agnomen Mangane.
Ellen was a daughter of James Coakley and Mary Connor
Michael was a son of John Mangane and Margaret Burke
We do see examples in families especially in the Drimoleague Catholic Parish where the surname used may be either Brien or Mangane and we have examples in families too where some children are baptised Mangane and others Brien.

MIchael Brien died at MInanes on 30 November 1913. His death record states he wasa widower, aged 77 years, a labourer. His daughter, Ellen Connolly, Minanes, was the Informant of his death on 31 Dec 1913.
