James McCarthy was a son of Timothy McCarthy and Catherine McCarthy (formerly Duggan).
James died on 29 July 1962 at his residence, Church Hill, Bandon. He is buried with his parents.

LATE MR. JAMES McCARTHY, BANDON
Widespread regret has been occasioned by the death of Mr. James McCarthy (retired foreman baker). which occurred unexpectedly at his residence. Church Hill, Bandon, recently. The late Mr. McCarthy who was in his early 60's was second son of the late Timothy and Catherine McCarthy, St. Patrick's Place, Bandon.
During the fight for freedom, the deceased took an active part in the local affairs of F Coy. 1st Batt. 3rd Cork Brigade L.R.A., of which he was a member. He was also a member of the Bandon Harrier Club.
There was a large and representative attendance at both removal of remains to St. Patrick's Church. Bandon, and at the funeral which took place to the adjoining cemetery, at which military honours were accorded by his former comrades in arms, under Capt. Jerh. Galvin. The following clergy officiated:- Very Rev. D. Canon O'Donoghue, P.P., V.F. Rev. C. O'Connor, C.C.: Rev. D. O'Donoghue, C.C.. Rev. K. Callaghan, C.C.
The chief mourners were Mr. Thos. Timothy Michael O'Regan, Sean and Oliver O'Farrell (grandnephews), Miss Ann McCarthy (grandniece). Mrs. T. O'Regan (London), Mr. and Mrs. P.
