Dan was a bachelor.

From the Irish Examiner newspaper dated 18 January 1951 we read his death notice:

O'DONOVAN (Ballineen) - On January 17, 1951 at Dunmanway Cottage Hospital Dan (Sonny), youngest son of the late Daniel O'Donovan, Currycrowley, Ballineen. R.I.P.  Funeral on this day (Thursday) at 1 o'clock from Hospital to Rosscarbery.
