Daniel often sung "Fáinne Geal an Lae" - in English "Dawning of the day".
He consequently got the nickname "Fáinne Geal"
It was said that he was a first cousin of Jeremiah O'Donovan Rossa
However, it may well be that it was his father, Daniel (also) was the first cousin
Deaths:
Catherine Donovan died on 11 January 1901 at Ardkitt.
From her death record she was married, aged 41 years, a dairyman's wife.
Her daughter Mary Ellen was the informant of her death to the Civil Registrar.
Daniel died in the home of his son, Michael, in Currycrowley, Ballineen on Monday 27 April 1936
He and his wife are buried in the family plot in St. Fachtna's Cathedral, Rosscarbery.
Headstone to Patrick Donovan (Kelecosane) Location in St. Fachtna's Cathedral
It is probable that this Patrick Donovan was the first of the clan to be buried here and hence the headstone. Other family members were subsequently buried here but no inscriptions are to be found. We know that this Daniel's father was also Daniel Donovan of Carhoogarriff and was likely to have been a cousin of Patrick.
