Katie

My dearest Pat,

Your most welcome letter
was received some time ago.  I hope
you are quite well also Dan.
I am going home on Monday 27th
Oxford will begin on 20th July.
I am writing home for boots probably
they will get them from you, so I leave
it to you to send a nice pair, settle the heels
I mean put rubbers on.  Size 8 boots
Don’t forget to write during the
Week or perhaps Sunny will. Now
I must say good bye

From
Your loving sister
Katie

On the address side of the card to Patrick is the Oldham postmark date of ?.30pm on 28th Jun 14 (that would of course be 1914)

It appears that she was to come home on Monday 27th July but I do vaguely recall hearing that because World War 1 had begun that she could not make it home.  Also I have been to her grave in Wales and hope to visit again and I will include here a photo plus GPS co-ords.

Novena to the Sacred Heart

O Divine Jesus who said "Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be opened to you. I kneel at Your feet. From whom shall I ask if not from You, whose Heart is the source of all blessings.

O Divine Jesus your Heart was moved by compassion for the men and women who came to you in need. You healed the sick, you forgave sinners. You are the Way, the Truth and the Life. O Divine Jesus your Heart is still full of compassion for us today in our many needs. Assured of Your love we turn to You and ask ...

(pause, here mention your request).

I admit I am most unworthy of Your favour, Jesus, but this is not a reason for me to be discouraged. You are the God of mercies and You will not refuse a contrite Heart. Look with pity on me, I beg You so that Your compassionate Heart will find in my weakness a motive for granting my request.

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be everywhere loved.
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, pray for us.

Rest in Peace

Marie, Eileen, Angela and I visited again in April 2024

[By :Frank O'Donovan  ]

I remember visiting Katie's grave with my parents many years ago.  The photos of me at the headstone was taken on 14 Oct 2012.  It is easy to find and I hope the GPS co-ords will assist others.
